This is a Fat Ass, meaning it is not a race, there is no entry fee, no awards and we will not provide aid. It’s an opportunity to run with friends and enjoy the hot and steamy beauty of an NC state park in August.
Important Info:
-Bring your own aid. We will provide ice and the park has water fountains, but absolutely anything else you want, bring yourself. We will have someone always watching our "stuff!"
-We will begin the run at approx. 7:25am, so please show up 15-20 minutes early to get settled (the park opens at 7:00am for our group).
-Meet at the shelter near the main picnic area. To get to the picnic area, turn into the park entrance off SR 561 and head south (SR 1322), pass the park office on your right, travel about 1.5 miles and turn left onto the main park road - the shelter will be at the end of this road.
-If you want to run, please email Frank or Cam to let us know.
-Directions can be found here.
-While this is not a race, we will record lap times. You have the option of running 1, 2, 3 or 4 laps (a.k.a. 'the total meltdown'). Each lap is a little more than 8.6 miles, so the total run works out to be just under 35 miles.
-Medoc Mountain, which is approximately 1hr and 15 minutes northeast of Raleigh, consists mostly of wide, well-maintained dirt trails. Despite its name, there is little elevation change.
-There will be water and self-aid available at the beginning, the 5.1 mile point and the end of the loop. There is also a bathroom you will pass at the beginning/end of each loop.
-If you plan on camping, there are shower facilities available. Camping reservation can be made here!
-Medoc attractions and highlights include (but are not limited to): heat, humidity, logs, rocks, poison ivy, snakes and perhaps even a bear or two . . . and . . . of course Medoc himself!
-Please bring a signed copy of the waiver to the run.
